Creating a Loft out of an existing Condo
A Crossings Design/Build Project
Our clients had spent many years living in New York City before relocating back to the metro Detroit area. They found themselves living in a fairly standard condo and hoped to open up the plan and modernize the space to remind them of the feel of the lofts they once lived in while in New York.
The existing dining room and kitchen were small, compartmentalized spaces off of the main living room. A small, enclosed staircase was adjacent to the dining room and provided access to the 2nd floor loft.
We removed several walls in order to completely open up these smaller spaces to the living room and tore out the existing stair to replace it with a minimal steel staircase. The marble fireplace surround was removed and replaced with a monolithic piece of steel that ties in visually with the staircase as well as other steel details that were added during the project.
In addition to the design work, Crossings was also responsible for building this project.
